JAMES (JIM) EDWARD BROUSSEAU
After a lengthy illness which Jim fought long, hard and strong, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 23, 2026.
Jim passed away at the Carmen, MB Hospital Palliative Care Unit, where he spent his final four nights. He was surrounded by his family during final days and moments.
Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Brousseau of 57 years and his three children, Stacey Campbell, Bridget Brousseau, Andrew Brousseau, son-in-law John Campbell and daughter-in-law Charlene Brousseau, his seven grandchildren, Jack, Belinda and Luke Campbell, Kelsey and Lauren Rathwell, Eric Brousseau, Jonnie Hendrickson and her husband, Matt Hendrickson, great-grandchild Kylie Hendrickson and his sister Barbara Brousseau. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews who he spent much time with and whom he loved sharing business advice.
Jim was the son of Adeline and Norman Brousseau, he was predeceased by his brothers, the late Michael, David, Robert, Richard, and Norman "Junior" Brousseau.
Jim and Ginny met at the University of North Dakota. Jim was studying business and Ginny was in nursing. The semester ended and Jim went back to Winnipeg while Ginny went back to James Town. They carried on a long-distance relationship for three years. Ginny graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in the spring of 1968, they were married Nov 22, 1968, in Jamestown, North Dakota. They would have celebrated 58 years married together in November 2026.
Ginny and Jim loved Sedona, Arizona and were able to spend time there for several years. They always drove there and enjoyed the roads less traveled. They loved their sixties music, and it played all the way. Jim and Ginny also loved their dogs. It started with Breezy, then Chevy, Mickey, Barnaby Jones and last but not least Loui.
Jim was the prominent Winnipeg business owner of "Super Lube". He built Super Lube from the ground up and was the proud owner of Super Lube for 40 Years. Jim expanded his business over the years to include six locations across Winnipeg and Jim even took on the challenge of building the newest Super Lube location while he was ill. Jim was not letting a terminal diagnosis get in the way of his living and building right to the end.
Jim loved to build and built his two first family homes for his family on Lord Ave in St. Norbert. Jim had a passion for business, building and family. His white picket fences were his signature move around most of his properties.
Jim and Ginny also spent annual summer vacations with their children in Minnesota at Lake Lida where Jim was always taking his children water skiing and tubing when they were young. Jim also loved the lake at Sandy Hook, MB where he spent time in the summer with his family and wife in his later years.
Jim attended Wilcox Boarding School in Saskatchewan for his last three years of school. Jim had many fond stories of his time at Wilcox when he and his brothers attended. Jim then attended University of North Dakota where he met Ginny. Many stories of his years going to UND and then coming back home to Canada to work on the railway as a waiter in the cabin cars, back and forth to Vancouver. Jim loved sharing these stories with his family about his early days.
Jim loved to tell his stories of business, family and building, giving advice and support he empowered those around him. Jim was a force, always mentoring his children, grandchildren and employees.
Jim will be deeply missed by all those who loved him. Ginny and family would like to thank all those friends and relatives on both side of the border who have sent cards, prayers and calls. It has been much appreciated and brightened both of our lives to the very end. We will all love him forever.
A "Celebration of Jim's Life" will be held today, Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Hyacinthe Parish, La Salle, MB. Reception to follow for 12:15 p.m. at Thomson “In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
